4x4 Off-Roading Extended
Product Code: P00101

Your Experience
Prepare yourself for a FULL day of serious off road action! Your experience starts with a short briefing on your impressive 4x4 vehicle and familiarisation of the controls. Then, once your instructor has taken you through the basics of off-road driving techniques, you'll take to the wheel and discover the true potential of a 4x4 vehicle. The laps will become progressively more challenging as you master the skills to tackle steep hills, gullies, deep ruts, ridges and ditches. Enjoy!

Locations
Aberdeenshire, Cumbria, Fife, Hampshire, Hertfordshire (2x), Lincolnshire (2x), Liverpool, London, North Wales, Scotland, South Wales, West Yorkshire.

Vital information
Most centres require you to have a full driving licence and you may be required to produce it on the day. Restrictions may apply, please check with us at point of booking.

The weather
The weather should not affect this experience, but any cancellations are for your own safety. Please call the centre before you leave if in any doubt. Wet weather can make for an even more exciting, muddy adventure.

Session length
The duration of the course will vary from centre to centre, but as a guide will last for around five or six hours which includes a welcome and safety briefing, personal driving time, lunch at some centres and a debriefing.

Most centres have around four people per car, but this may vary.

Spectators
Facilities vary from centre to centre. Most centres welcome spectators, however, due to the fact the cars go through off road courses, it is usually not possible to see all of the action.

Dress for the outdoors, i.e. warmly if it's cold, with stout boots and a waterproof jacket. Bring along a change of clothes if it is wet.

Fascinating Facts

Taking a 4x4 over rough terrain can give the driver a desire to explore even wilder locations. The first rule is never to drive faster than is absolutely necessary, and to take obstacles at a slow and steady pace. The second rule is always to prepare for the worst case scenario. In rocky areas drive slowly, and engage low ratio four-wheel drive to give greater vehicle control. In deep V-shaped gullies, be careful not to drop one side of the vehicle into the deepest point; drive with the wheels straddling the gully so as not to end up hopelessly jammed in a position where digging and pushing do not help. Heavily used tracks are often deeply rutted so drive with one wheel in a rut and the other on the hump to prevent the vehicle's undercarriage getting hung up. If negotiating mud, map your route using sticks jammed into the ground to indicate drop-offs and other hazards, mark the exact position the steering-wheel is in when the wheels are pointed dead ahead. It's easy to turn the wheels too far to one side without realising it, as the vehicle continues going in a straight line, getting more bogged by the second. Happy motoring!
