RIB Boat 3.5 Hours High Speed Ride
Product Code: RIBSOLNT

The Experience
“Sheer exhilaration”. Nothing comes close to the excitement and immediacy of a rigid inflatable boat. Capable of stunning speeds and yet ultimately controllable in all sea states, ribs form the backbone of the RNLI fleet.
This is a chance for you to spend half a day with no more than six other people learning how to drive the boat. There will be three separate opportunities to take the controls as we work through a familiarisation exercise, man overboard drills and then drive through choppier waters.
After all of the training, hang on tight whilst the skipper takes back control and puts the boat through its paces around the famous overfalls off the Needles Lighthouse in the English Channel.
Gather at the first floor Bistro in the Yacht Haven Marina in Lymington to enjoy a coffee at the Haven Bistro and admire the superb view of the Solent whilst awaiting the start of the event.
After a comprehensive safety briefing, our fully qualified skipper will take you down to the berths to ‘kit up’ for sea. Waterproof oilskins and automatic lifejackets are issued to all participants
The experience is set in the beautiful Western Solent. We will drive within yards of Hurst Castle, Fort Albert, Yarmouth Castle and stop to gather breath against the striking setting of the multi-coloured cliffs of Alum Bay.
We stop for coffee on the Isle of Wight in the ancient port of Yarmouth before boarding the boat again and blasting straight across the Solent at top speed back to Lymington.
Jump in to the brand new shower block if you received a soaking or set a course for home in your car!

Fascinating Facts

A motorboat generally speaking is a vessel other than a sailboat or personal watercraft, propelled by an internal combustion engine driving a jet or a propeller. A speedboat is a small motorboat designed to move quickly, used in races, for pulling water skiers, as patrol boats, and as fast-moving armed attack vessels by the military.

There are three popular variations of powerplants: inboard, inboard/outboard, and outboard. If the engine is installed within the boat, it's called a powerplant; if it's a removable module attached to the boat, it's commonly known as an outboard motor.

An outboard motor is installed on the rear of a boat and contains the internal combustion engine, the gear reduction, and the propeller.

An inboard/outboard contains a hybrid of a powerplant and an outboard, where the internal combustion engine is contained inboard and the gear reduction and propeller are outside.

A purely inboard boat contains everything except a shaft and a propeller inside the vessel. There are two configurations of an inboard, v-drive and direct drive. A direct drive has the powerplant mounted near the middle of the boat with the propeller shaft straight out the back, where a v-drive has the powerplant mounted in the back of the boat facing backwards having the shaft go towards the front of the boat than making a 'V' towards the rear.

Motorboats vary greatly in size and configuration, from the 4-meter, open Boston Whaler type to the so-called "Bond villain" luxury mega-yachts capable of crossing an ocean.
